NJ Energy Rebates for Electrical Work
New Jersey and the utilities offer real money toward electrification, EV charging, and efficiency upgrades — but the programs are a maze, and the rules change. Here's the plain-English version, and how we help you qualify.
We're electricians, not the rebate office — but we do this work every week, so we can point you to the programs that fit your project, do the work to the spec they require, and handle the inspection and paperwork the program asks for. What follows is a starting map; the official sources below always have the current rules.
Programs that touch electrical work
Home electrification & efficiency
New Jersey's Clean Energy Program runs a statewide Whole Home Energy Efficiency effort through the utilities — cash-back rebates (up to several thousand dollars, based on your home's modeled energy savings) plus zero-interest financing toward heating, cooling, water heating, insulation, and air sealing. These are state/utility rebates, funded by NJ ratepayers — they were not affected by the federal credits expiring. Going electric (a heat pump, heat-pump water heater) often means your panel or service has to be upgraded first — that's the part we handle. Official: NJ's Clean Energy Program →
EV charger incentives
There's a statewide Charge Up New Jersey incentive toward an eligible Level 2 home charger, and your utility layers its own program on top — PSE&G and JCP&L each have residential EV-charging programs that can cover part of the charger install and any utility-side upgrades your service needs. Utility program terms change (PSE&G's off-peak charging credit changed in 2026), so the current amount depends on your utility and the date. Official: Charge Up NJ →
Federal tax credits — check current status
Federal credits in this space have come and gone. The home-improvement and clean-energy credits that covered electrical-panel and electrification work (Sections 25C and 25D) expired at the end of 2025, so we don't build them into a 2026 estimate. A separate federal EV-charger credit has applied into 2026 with its own deadline. Because this shifts with tax law, confirm what's current with a tax professional or the IRS before you count on it.
